New chicken owner

I looked this up and I think your right 😔 it said the legs can give out and that they should be used at like 10 weeks. And I actually had him for 4 months 🤦‍♀️

It's unfortunately common for chick of different breeds to get mixed up in a feed store environment. Careless or poorly trained employees might mix them in the bins, customers might handle them then put them into the wrong bin, chicks from multiple batches might be combined into one bin with the signs not properly changed, or the chickens might even mix themselves -- I actually saw that happen in a local farm store where a chick flew up onto the side of her bin and dropped down into the next bin.

You must have cared for him well for him to have lasted so long.

Agree that he was a CornishX meat bird and was genetically programed for rapid growth and shortened longevity. Hopefully your pullets are not also Cornish X.

Agree, that's a Cornish X rooster like they use in the meat industry. No way a leghorn could ever get that chunky. Like 3KillerBs said, feed stores often get their chicks mixed up. So sorry you got the wrong chicken!

Lol 😆 who steals a chicken? Yea, I cried and they just all was looking at me like what a baby, they grew up killing all their chicken.
