(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are very new to chickens. Our daughter started raising them (as well as ducks) and the wife decided that it would be a great idea to start a small flock of our own. We got our first 6 on Memorial day weekend.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
6, 5 hens and a surprise rooster
(3) What breeds do you have?
They are Rhode Island Reds
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
So far it's been seeing the completely different personalities of the chicks, each one has her (and his) own quirks and habits.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Riding motorcycles, boating, building things (like the coop and run) and taking care of our other pets (4 cats and 3 dogs)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have 6 children and 6 grand-children, 4 cats, 3 dogs. I work in law enforcement and my wife is currently working from home for her company due to the covid-19 pandemic
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
First heard of BYC on Facebook while trying to research how to raise and care for our new chicks
