Hello fellow chicken raisers!

A cool, rainy day here in California. My girls (six - two Buff Orpingtons, four Green Queens) are currently cuddling up in the coop, having spent part of the morning in their run eating the spaghetti, cucumber peels and bits of lettuce I gave them this morning. (In addition to their regular pellet feed in the feeder.)

I purchased seven chicks, hoping at least four would survive, and only one didn't make it during the trip from the hatchery in Ohio. I'd hoped to get chicks from a local hatchery, but by the time my contractor could build our coop, the local folks were done hatching chicks for the season.

The girls (Sophie, Rose, Tessie, Dorothy, Heather, and Blanche) all seem healthy and vigorous.

Looking forward to learn how to care for them better.
