Hi all, or as I heard this morning from one of my four HENS, “cock-a-doodledo”!

I’m pretty new to chickens, though the way I acquired mine hasn’t been really pleasant. Long story short, a neighbor did something stupid while he had 22 chicks. I acquired two - 2 months ago and had to but something together for them, QUICK. Bought a prebuilt coop from Tractor Supply and my other neighbor and I put it together (so it wouldn’t end up across the back yard into the side of my barn), and then built a pen/run.

These two were a Frizzle (Thelma) and a Silkie (Louise), and then I was given an adult hen that was being harassed by another flock and a dog (who only had eyes for her), named Matilda, a Barred Plymouth Rock.

I lost the Frizzle to a rat snake, July 4, and then acquired two Polish hens from the first neighbor. He STILL has 3 hens at his house, that are mine....if I can CATCH them. Of course, they’re MUCH smarter than I, and roost in a bushy tree surrounded by sticker plants. Ugh.

I life on 3.61 acres in the country, surrounded by cattle, donkeys, goats and chickens, so I LOVE having the, watching and listening to them (until this morning’s greeting), and the one egg a day is a complete bonus!

Im a musician, artist, writer, antique dealer....
Been divorces 14 years.
Besides the chickens, I’ve got two dogs: Bella Blue (a genuine Georgia Brown Dog), and Dolce, a doxi/ papillon mix.
Two tuxedo cats, Roxie and Rosie (sisters)
AND cockatiel (Sonnie) a rescue, and two parakeets (Rhett and Scarlet).

I found BYC because I was searching for a few answers to a few questions.....one of which was HOW DO I CATCH free range chickens??!!

What did I forget??

Welcome!! Maybe try to train your chickens to a treat, or call. Try to work with them to trust you, even so much that they will walk up to you, and you can try to grab them.
I walk out the door and call
”Peepes”, and everyone gets excited. These three next door.....if it cools off a little, I’ll see what I can do!
