Hi, I'm new at raising chickens and have 5 all different breeds that are almost 11 weeks and 14 weeks old. They're in a coop out side and I let them run around outside everyday. My question is, how long do chickens have to be "outside of a cage" to be free range?
Thank you.

Welcome to BYC!

Free ranging is just that. If they are allowed to wander around for any length of time, they are free ranging. :-)

Enjoy your new flock and welcome to ours!

Well it depends. Of course you have to watch them to make sure nothing goes after them or if they can fly over a fence, I normally let mine out at around 5 and they go inside themselves whenever it starts getting dark. But lately Ive been letting them out around noon, but they should want to go in to lay eggs, because I know I found a few out in my backyard. But as long as you watch them they should be fine:)

Thank You. I have been debating whether they're free range or not.
