Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Oh good! You work at a zoo so you know all about species appropriate habitat and have time to construct a properly sized coop and run with chicken appropriate enrichment before the chicks arrive!
Yep! The first supplies are already here with more on the way! Just need to wait for the brooder plate to get here, so we can start tracking the temps for at least a week before the chicks get here. Luckily, we also have chickens as animal ambassadors at the zoo and some of my coworkers have chickens, so I've been bombarding them with questions.
What are some of your chickens' favorite enrichment toys/activities? We already have a list started, but there's always room for more ideas to try.

Wood chips to slowly cold compost the poop load; stumps, chair, branches to roost on; dry soil beneath the wood chips to dig holes in for dust bathing; they have a floor fan for summer and the run is wrapped in reinforced tarps for winter protection.

They really only stay in the run during bad weather.
Their pen is surrounded by electrified poultry netting and they have a HUGE old style quince bush at the end of the run that they love to stay under during hot days.

Otherwise, they like foraging and sun bathing in their pen.
