Recently, I put up a thread on a chicken that I had that I was wondering if it was a roo or a pullet. Many answered my question and looked at my pictures of the chicken, I took their knowledge and conducted research and also discussed it with the original farmer/breeder. I took the chicken to the breeder and he said it was a roo like everyone who answered my question I don''t want to take a chance with it being a roo and having all of my neighbors hating me so I switched the roo for different pullet.

When I returned home, three out of the four chickens that I have at home are bonding with her but that one hen absolutely refuses to. She runs after the new chick and pecks her anywhere she can, whether it's the neck or back feathers.

I'm concerned that my new chick will be dead by morning. What should I do?

First off to prevent that chick getting torn apart you need to separate that new hen from the rest. Try and keep her with the rest of them, just put up chicken wire or whatever to keep her separated. From what I understand it takes upwards of 3 weeks for things to calm down. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the advice. I did separate the one that was picking on her from all the others and left the new chick with the chicks who seemed to have accepted her. I just had no idea that I would have to keep them apart for that period of time. She's been running from the aggressor. The aggressor tends to chase then once the new chick goes away from the aggressor and the other chicks and everything is fine until the new chick tries to associate with the others again. When the aggressive chick gets close to the new one she pecks her neck or back or anywhere she can get to.

Yes they are the same age and from the same batch of hatchlings. He is a breeder and sells them. He had over 700 at one point and time and now down to 200. So, I don't know if the aggressor is just trying to show dominance of the flock or what?
