(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My family got our first chickens about 6 weeks ago. We were gifted our first chicken and chicken house and chicken run when a friend of ours moved away. Then we decided she needed friends...
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 10 chickens right now.
We bought 9 chicks shortly after getting everything set up at the house.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Our original chicken is about 2 years old, she is a Barred Rock, We raised the nine from chicks and now they are all in a shared space. 3 of them are brown Leghorns, 3 are Black Sexlink, and 3 are Gold Sexlink
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I found backyardchickens by searching the web for help as soon as getting chickens became a possibility. Then I saw the site listed as a resource at every feed store, supply store and in every publication I picked up
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We try to do a little backyard vegetable gardening and wanted to find a way for the chickens and the garden to help each other out...
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share
My wife is a stay at home mom, my 4 kids are under 5 years old. The oldest has earned the title "chickenmaster". my youngest just learned to sit up without tipping over - sometimes...

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

It sounds like you have a lovely flock! Those are some great breeds! Best of luck with them. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Glad you joined this community!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. You have a very good and thorough introduction. Which part of north Texas are you in? My wife and I were both raised in north Texas. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. You have some excellent layers. Black Sex Links are my favorites as they are friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
