I'm so glad this site exists! I've learned so much already. For the past three years I've visited the chicks during chick days, just waiting for the right year to become a backyard chicken owner. I brought six Red Sexlinks home last night. Sadly, one was lethargic this morning, and she didn't make it. :-( My son took the day off from work to make sure the rest would be okay. So sad. The rest seem to be having a ball, and hopefully they will all be okay.

BYC is such a wealth of information. I hope someday I'll know enough to actually help others and make up for the zillions of questions I will be no doubt asking.

glad you have joined us.

But sorry about the loss and hope all others do well. I know it was hard to lose one of those babies.

Watch for pasty butts, they are quite common in the the first week.

Do visit the Learning Center for answers to many questions.

Thank you!

I am on the lookout for the pasty butt issue. Hopefully this was an anomaly and the others will grow up healthy and happy. :-)

Hi Melissa and welcome to BYC - great to have you onboard with us.

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced poultry keepers - loads of info on anything poultry. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

All the best

Thanks! The learning center is a fantastic resource that I will use a lot, I'm sure. I'm also looking forward to connecting with others in my area.
