(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Hi, I first fell in love with chickens as a kid growing up next to my great grandmother's diminishing farm. She needed help tending to her flock and I always enjoyed the variety she kept. I got my own chickens in the early eighties while in middle school and displayed a few show quality at the local county fairs for 4-H.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Just a couple of weeks ago, my wife and I endeavored on our own chicken adventure and currently have 28 peepers in our basement, nearly ready to go into their recently built coop.
(3) What breeds do you have? Easter Eggers, Cuckoo Marans, Dark Cornish, Lakenvelders, Buff Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and a mystery chick (looks like a leghorn, but has reddish plumage coming in)
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Looked for some advice on building our coop and found BYC on Google - blown away by the wealth of info!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, hiking, biking, birdwatching, and 'turning our 10 acre prairie into a forest' as my wife puts it.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My wife and I plan to expand from 2 cats, 28 chickens and 7 fish, to who knows how many farm critters. We are both graphic designers and love living in the country. We are both excited about the wonderful conversations that take place here and can't wait to become more acquainted with fellow poultry lovers!
