Well I've had my 3 new biddies for about 2 weeks now and everything is going well. Just let them outta the pen to free range Sunday and they're happy as pigs in ** , cruising around the yard, checking things out, taking dust baths in the wing of the horse paddock. So far the most exciting thing has been when we introduced them to the horses. All 3 of our blonde guys were bought from the Amish so I was pretty sure they've seen chickens before. Bud and Alex our stallion just sorta looked at them. Not Indy our young gelding! He had to chase them! He took off after the rooster at a slow trot. They didn't seem too stressed by the ordeal. They could have moved a lot faster but they pretty much just scrambled fast enough to keep out of the way of this big lumbering horse that was chasing them around in circles. ( I really think Indy wanted to grab Romeo's tail feathers but he couldn't get close enough! ) Man, I wish Indy would arch his short neck like that under saddle! If i had known it was going to be that amusing I would have shot a movie of it!
Other than that, things have been going pretty normal. One hen gives me an egg at 10 o'clock every day the other another sometime after that. Their yolks are starting to change color from that watery yellow to a deep orange. Must be all the slugs they're eating, my property is full of them.
They're so much fun to watch!
