Hi i have hand reared a single chick and now it's old enough to go with the other ten chickens,But it's turned out to be a young cockrel.I have had him in a pen so they the others so they can see him on a daily basis.I let him out with them and he was beaten up so I had to put him back in his pen. They have been able to see him now for about four week .Has anyone any ideas of how i can get him in with them.He is a frence blue maran so he his quite a tall chicken .Please help.jeannie

If you don't have any other roosters - it's not unusual for hens to beat on a new cockerel/rooster. I image they are trying to teach him respect. When hormones hit cockerels go a little crazy- an education early, will lead to smoother going for him later.

Thank you j am going to try letting him out with them again this weekend He is going to have to get used to them.He is a big lad so he can look after himself if he can pluck up enough courage .jeannie
