I'm so excited to have found this page! I just bought my chickens yesterday and brought them home to my garden and coop that I have for them! One of them woke up very noisy this morning and sounded like she was in distress! I went out to check on them and there were no critters around and they had food and water. I gave them a corn on the cob and that has mostly kept them occupied. I'm thinking that maybe they are stressed out with the move? My plan is to keep them confined to the coop for a couple of days before I let them out to roam the garden. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Moving is definitely stressful for them. Many people do keep them in the coop for a day or two, but I would caution you to be sure it is cool enough in there, depending of course on where you live. Chickens have a lot of trouble with summer heat. As for the noise, perhaps you just haven't learned their vocabulary yet! Mine get very noisy when I enter the coop, which is their anticipating a treat. They give up in a couple of minutes even if I didn't bring anything.

That noise is the egg song I think... check in the coop for any eggs hidden somewhere. . Leave them for a week in their pen to get used to it... then let them roam the gardem ..... make sure they don't have access to the roads or neighbor's backyard or anything.... good luck with them and keep us posted on the news chickies...

The one was pretty noisy for awhile but they have both settled in nicely! The barred rock is by far the more vocal one but its not 24/7 now!
