New chickens.

I have seven week old chicks (7 of them) ,and I got 5 three week old chicks today. I was wondering when it would be safe to put them in the coop together? Right now the older ones are in the coop, and I have the others in the brooder in the garage. I was also wondering how much heat a chicken can stand? Where I am it is about 90-100 degrees a day, and very little wind. Thanks for any help that you can give.

You might want put them in a cage beside the coop were the older cicks can see them for acouple days so they can get use to them, or you can put them in the coop an see how they do sense neither group is very old. If you try just putting them in the coop keep a close eye on them bc chickens do have a peacking order. There will probably be alil head packing (thats ok) jus to let the newbies no whose in charge an were they stand in the flock. Just watch them to make sure it doesn't get to bad an no blood gets drawn. I introduced the same age chicks you are acouple wks ago and I just put mine straight in the coop an didn't have any problems.

I jus relied your other question idk how much heat a chicken can take. But you can put ice in there water to help them out. I read alil ago that somebody gets a can of whole corneal corn an an gets the corn out puts it in water freezes it like a ice cube an the chicks have a cold treat to peak at to keep cool. Haven't tried yet lol.....Lots of interesting stuff on BYC...And glad to help

It was 106• here in lovely Bakersfield, Ca., & my 14 week old pullets were really suffering. Here's what I did: Put a small window fan in coop, box fan at the end of the run, sprayed the run down throughout the day, put ice in their water, gave them cold greens, & watermelon. I also checked on them all day. If I thought one or two were in real trouble, I had a cage ready to put in our shop which has a swamp cooler in it. Luckily everyone made it through & are real perky today

. Supposed to be cooler today & tomorrow, heating up again by the weekend. Heat can be deadly for chickens, so you need to have a plan.

I'm in Texas where it gets pretty hot.Fresh water and ventilation and they will be ok
