Hi all! So my story starts with my neighbor gifting a cornish cross broiler to my 6 yr old. Couple days later I'm at TSC buying 4 pullets and we are converting my daughter's playhouse into a coop. Neighbor has 1 broiler die and he then gives me the 2 he has left. Another neighbor sees my fb post about my babies and offers me his coop and run that he built and no longer wants.chickens. so I now have his barnevelder and easter egger lol. I have them in the separate coops until my babies are bigger. My question is will they get along at some point. The big birds are a little intimidating to me lol. Also, I've tried to prepare my daughter for the meat birds to be butchered and she cried big ole tears. I know normally you wouldn't keep them as pets BUT...Any advice? What I should/shouldn't do? TIA!!

Hello, it's going to be difficult/impossible to keep a broiler as long as your other chickens, but some have had luck extending their lives by limiting feed and keeping them active.

Hello, and welcome to BYC. The lifespan of Cornish X can be extended somewhat by limiting feed intake, but they will eventually develop issues that result in early death.
