My hatch finally started....on day 24. This is the hatch that started out at 97 degrees for the first 14 days, then upped it to 100 for the last. I thought I did them all in....but no have had 5 hatch so far, one died, 3 up and running, and one looks strong and wants to run but has a shell stuck to its butt. It was the last to hatch around 5 hours ago. WHat do I do with it?? Let it go for the night?? Warm water and try and peel it off?? Nature vs Nurture...
I see a couple others moving around, so it looks like I might have a couple more in there. Here are some pics of them:

I would leave it for tonight...then, in the morning, if it hasn't fallen off, you might want to take it out, and try to chip the shell away...be carefull if the yolk sack is in there tho, dont want to rupture it. CUTE BABIES!!!!

I forgot to ask about the water on the bottom. There was blood and yolk still in the shell of the one that died. You can see it turned the water channel red with blood. Do I just leave that since they will only be in there for another day?? Or should I try and drain and clean it to prevent bacteria & infection?

An hour later and the chick with the shell stuck dragged itself over to the other side of the bator, eyes open looking around for the other little ones.

Thanks,
Cory

See if you can peel the shell off slowly with warm water. Just make sure he doesn't get chilled! If the yolk sac is not dried yet, let it absorb a bit more, but if the chick is dry and trying to run around then go ahead and take off the shell. Otherwise he will just hurt himself more by peeling the shell off himself. The yolk sac should dry up and you can cut it later. If you can, separate him to a place where the sac will not catch on wire and rip.

Good luck! I've had a few like this and I've never lost one!

Cory?? Hows the hatch coming!?? I noticed in the pics, you had to open the lid to get the pictures. try NOT to open any more...every time you do, the tems drop, and the humidity drops. Its hard...not to open...I know, wanna, gotta see...LOL I hope the little shelled one is doing better. Oh, and I would leave the water alone, just because opening the lid so often is hard on the hatch!

Nope I've been fighting temptation to open it and look and play with the little fuzz balls. I just opened it that one time for the pics and to see if the shell would peel off easily, which it didn't.
I looked in the window this morning and the little one still has his butt stuck in the shell. She is all dry and fluffy on the head & back so I guess its not going to fall off. She is healthy and active walking around, just dragging her butt around. Maybe all she needs is a cup of coffee to quit dragging butt like me in the morning

I guess after I've woke up and get fortified with a second cup of coffee, I'll go out with warm water and a warm towel and see if I can help her out. Luckily they are in the wash room so I can pull some towels right out of the dryer and be toasty warm for her.
Ohh there is one more egg that has pipped over night. I guess what I thought was a total failure is actually becoming a marginal sucess.....no thanks to me, the babies did all the hard work
Thanks for everyones help,
Cory
