New chicks and mean hens

Hi we have 6, 3 year old hens that are extremely mean well almost all of them are. We are thinking about getting some more chicks but we want them to survive. I think if we get more , will make a brooder, like a box inside the coop so they will get used to each other. If anyone has any other ideas that would be great Thanks
