I just had to share pictures of my 4 new chicks that arrived yesterday from My Pet Chicken!! I ordered 4 different breeds so I could tell them apart. They hatched on Monday in OH and by Tuesday afternoon they were in my brooder in CT!
My little Golden Buff seemed a little weaker than the others but she has since perked up! Any idea when I am out of the woods in that aspect?
I put them in my brooder with my two week old Cayuga ducklings and after some test pecks at each other they all seem to be getting along just fine.
My one question is when should I (or should I) put in a roosting pole? I do have a larger cage (old dog crate) that I have set up for when they grow a bit and was able to safely put a roosting pole in there, but do they need one now?

Cute!

No, they don't need a roosting pole. Mine don't have access to one till they are allowed to go into general population because I just don't have a way to give them one in the brooder. Even my chicks that are hatched by the hens sleep on the floor until they are bigger.

I ordered them about a month or so ago. And yes all but one that I originally wanted was available for that date so I just switched the one I wanted for the Golden Buff!

That is a real nice selection! I hope they sent you some healthy babies, I love having new baby chicks around!

I just got three new baby Buff Leghorns today, I am really excited about having them!
My Four bantams have been giving us about three eggs per day or so, but I have heard better productivity for the Leghorns, so I am hoping this works out for the better with them as well!
