New chicks dying

Ok guys last year I got ten baby chicks from our feed store only lost one. This year I got ten chicks from our feed store last Friday Feb 28th and I've lost three. The only thing this year I've done differently is the bedding and the type of chicks. I used pine shavings because they were out of pellets. Thoughts?!!?

Hi there, I would have to say luck of the draw. You don't know what these chicks have been subjected to prior to your care, so who knows? If you did everything 'as usual', it's unlikely to be anything you did/didn't do - what type of chicks did you get?
