I've got two sets of clutches newly hatched by their own laying mommas.

Both Momma's are doing their job and incredibly protective of the chicks.
I am happy about that part but not happy about the prospect of the crazy pecking they've aimed my way!!
How much longer will I have to carry around a gladiator shield (small garbage can lid) when changing the water/food in their quarters?
When do the Momma Hens start to relax?

(I know there has got to be something on here about this but there's a lot to search through...)

Mamas usually mother their chicks for somewhere around 6 weeks -- though this varies, a lot. When they are through, they will chase the chicks away, and mine at least returned to roosting with the flock, while the chicks slept together in a corner or nest.

I agree. mine go between 4 and 6 wks then intergration should have happened. But they know thier place. Momma will be your friend again after that. Congrats!
