New Chicks Have Arrived!! Yellow is the extra?

Sapphire Gems are not known for going broody. That doesn't say what yours will do, just that broodiness is relatively rare among Sapphire Gems, compared with some other kinds of chickens.

The same goes for any of the other common hybrids that are supposed to be very good layers: a broody is not laying, so selection for good layers is partly a selection against broodiness.
Good to know! I hope to have land some day and I’ll want to hatch some of our own chicks so I’ll get a rooster and a hen that’s likely to go broody.

Yes, green legs are found in Easter Eggers much more often than they are found in other chickens from a hatchery. Most pure breeds of chickens have legs that are white, yellow, or blue.
I got an email that someone commented on this thread saying the last one is a cockerel cause it had a white dot on the back of its head. The comment is not here though. Don’t know where it went or if they deleted it. But what do you think. The last one would be the yellow that now is getting the white feathers.

The post was probably deleted. The person could have changed their mind about what they posted, or they may have meant to post in some other thread but put it in your thread by mistake.

There are some kinds of chicks where a white dot on the head indicates a male, while females have no dots. Black Stars are that way (you have a female), but your other chicks cannot be sexed by looking for dots on the head.

Gotcha. Ok good. That one is going to my friend anyway, but I don’t know that she wants a rooster 😂

The chicks are only 2.5 weeks old but getting lots of feathers. I’ll post the 6 that should be EE (4) and OE (2). The others are brown leghorn (I know which one she is cause she’s tiny and I just had 4 of them as babies last month) black star (98% sure I know who she is as she’s the only one getting solid black feathers in) and the yellow chick (who I think is an EE based off the white feathers and green legs. I also posted a pic of her a day or 2 ago.) I banded 2 that we are keeping for sure no matter what cause they’re my kids’ favorites and banded the 2 that were chipmunk markings with yellow legs (not my brown leghorn) based off NatJ’s recommendation that those may be the OEs.

Pepper Potts. Fluffy cheeks and green legs.
Editing to add, she had spots on her head and face when she got here!
