So im geting two new chicks from a breeder in my area his week, and i wanted to know whats the best way to inroduce them my existing flock of 11. I usually don't have a problem with doing this, because i usually get a number of chicks higher han he number of ones i have. I don't wan these new ones picked on. They should get along with my six five-month-olds. Any tips? Also, i'd like some advice on how you really bond with a chicken, get it to like you. Im close with my others, but these two chicks are going to be special.

How old are the chicks? I would advise against putting chicks in with 5 month old birds or they will be picked on and perhaps killed. That's just how it is in the chicken world. You shouldn't intro new birds to established birds until they are fully feathered and at least 1/2 as big (even bigger is better) as the older ones. Here's an article about introducing new birds. Good luck to you!

  • Introduce them while feeding the other chooks with treats
  • Try putting them in at night on a perch away from the others so they won't be able to sort out pecking order straight away.
  • Put them in a small cage beside the pen so the chickens get to know each other, they will have to sort of pecking order one day.

Good luck with your chickens!
Hope these ideas will be useful
