Our four new eggers for TSC have seemed to imprinted on our hand... They go under the brooder plate when we remove our hand, yet when we place our hand in the pen, they run to us and start eating, and even drinking. Now, as much as I'd love to stay with them all day, I'm in able to. I did place food under the plate, so they could peck like they would out from under mama.

Ambient temp is roughly 67F.

I guess I'm just curious how to tell if they eat and drink when we aren't around aside from a camera? Lol we've done several broods so far, Mama was the easiest and these little ones looked day old when we got them, our others last year were a bit bigger. I know chickens know how to chicken, lol, I'm trying to keep in mind that the first week our Mama brood stayed pretty much under her for most of the day (granted it was Dec 1 when that brood hatched)

I'm sure I'm over reacting and over thinking lol

As long as I sit beside them they chirp and peck the ground, if I leave it's like they go into sleep mode lol

That's okay and a sign they haven't imprinted on you but are comfortable in your presence and feel safe with you still.. They would chirp and scream every time you left if they were imprinted, in MY experience.

I would put feed and water nearby but not under the plate.

So cute and sweet! :love

Ha yeah, I guess I didn't think about the screaming chicks who ended up on the outside of pen from Mama lol although we have one that if it's too quiet in the house she sqeaks a constant chirp until someone says something. Our teens aren't home right now but they always check on them and the girls outside too.
