New Chicks in Fort Worth, Texas

Hi! We live in Parker county and just got 3 chicks last week too....I am enjoying them already , just concerned about fortifying the coop and run to keep the critters out. where did you get your chicks? I got ours at Russell feed off hwy 80

You must not be that far from me since I'm in White Settlement. I went to that Russell Feed and they didn't have a very large selection and the salesman told me that the Jacksboro Hwy store had a lot more chicks because they sell several hundred per week. The Russell Feed on 199 (Jacksboro Hwy) in Lake Worth has a much larger store, much nicer store and had a better selection! That is where I got the buff orpingtons but they had like 6 different types. The others I got from local adds in Craigslist. The good thing about the ones from Russell's is they are supposed to be females, which is what I want.

As far as fortifying the coop, I plan to put chicken wire over the top of mine where I don't have tin and we are digging down about 1 foot at the edges to keep critters from digging under. But then, my coop is only going to be about 5x8ft so I can do those things. I plan to let them free range in the back yard in the evenings, so they will still be exposed to danger, but I can't help that.
