Thank you Doc7! I removed the lamp for about an hour this morning & then 'chickened' out...lol! I'll do that this afternoon! Cheers, also from central VA!!

Trust the MHP, remove the heat lamp. I use a MHP all by itself as long as it is above 15 degrees fahrenheit outside with 1 day old chicks.

Same when you change waterers. Take the old waterer out , show them how to use new one, and ignore them for 24-48 hours. Chicks dont change, you make them.

Take the heat lamp out and gently push each chick under the MHP so they can feel the heat, they warm themselves up when they need to by pushing their backs up to the underside of the heat pad.
Trust it! It is a fantastic way to raise chicks!
