new chicks not here yet

I've heard that if you get them from a good hatchery they are 97% correct when they sex them (nobody's perfect) Ours are straight run so we should get 50/50 hens/roosters.

MM is very good on shiping i have some out there some where also they can go 3 days with out food or water. Of corse make sure to give thelm water as soon as you get thelm home just dip there beeks in as you take thelm out of the box in and out quickly maybe twice. if you had some trouble with post master it might pay you to call thelm in the morning if they dont call you.

I plan on being there 1st thing in the am. He (postmaster) was very mean when we talked to him. He was like "CHICKENS", my boyfriend said, "yes baby chickens and we want them to be alive"
The pm stated that if they were delivered before anyone was there the the delivery person would just leave the load on the loading dock.

My boyfriend wants to go up there and see if we can hear them through the gate and then jump the gate and get them if we can hear them...lol

I reminded him that the post office is Federal - that is a lot of jail time

Can you tell we are excited????

I got the rainbow layers. Got two roos (out of 26) 11 died the first four days.

Wish I'd have done the Oriental Layers. I like variety.

I spoke with MM today (we're getting our first fluffy butts in two weeks) and they pretty much confirmed that the "rare chick" will most likely be a roo. I explained that we can't keep roos here and that my 9 year old DD will be heartbroken if we have to give it away. They recommended that we simply order another sexed chick instead of getting the "rare" one. We paid for the chick (a Dominique) but there's no more in shipping. It was a good compromise for us.

UPDATE>>>

The post office called at 6:15 this morning. I picked them up amnd they all made it. I believe one is struggling a little bit but maybe she is just tired. She seems very lathargic (spelling?)

I post pics in a little while
