Hi friends! Ive got 7 white leghorn chicken eggs that are being sat and are due in the next few days and ive been wondering what would be th ebest thing to do with them? Ive sectioned off a part of the indoor area where the mum is sitting them so that when they hatch the other chickens cant get to them but im worried that it will be too cold for them and i think the mum could struggle to keep them warm as she is not a white leghorn and is quite small. Would bringing them home on their own or with the chicken thats sitting them be a good idea? Thanks in advance!

we have no way of getting any form of heat down there as we dont have electric anywhere near their pen as its in the middle of a field :S I dont know whats best to do.

you could bring them in the house and brood them yourself with a 100 watt bulb for heat . that way you would know they will be safe.

7 chicks is about half of what a full-size bird could handle. If she's covering the eggs well enough to hatch them, then I suspect she'll be able to handle the chicks.

really? 7 is half?? omg! my mum kept telling me to take some away when she had alot cause she said they might not be able to keep them all warm. I think I might just bring them home then just to be safe!

Also would they be alright on their own or would I have to bring the mum home with them aswell?
