New chicks- starter food/ old hens- layer feed??

I have a few 1 year old hens and will be adding a few new chicks this year. Once I get them used to each other and all in the same coop how do ya keep the young birds from eating the layer feed?

You really can't keep them from eating layer if they are in the same pen. When I mix the chickens in I switch to grower and finisher until everyone is at the same level then switch back to layer.

Otherwise you'll have to keep them separate from eating the layer with the bigger chickens.

Layer won't hurt them any if you would not like to separate them.
