Put some water and food nearby for the babies. They will come out to explore and eat and drink if they need to.
Good luck and pictures when you can...

Well, she is being a super mom. The Marans are clearly dominant chicks and they have pecked at her face, her eyes, her comb, one was hanging from her small waddle, and she just tried to move her face out of the way. Their food and water is close and they have been coming in and out from her all day seeming quite happy. I lost one during the night. I had 2 silver laced polish that arrived looking really weak. They weren't walking right, kinda crouched down on that first joint. they were sleeping most of the time and not doing much. i kept waking them up and putting their heads to the water and feeding them from my hand. The one that had looked worst on arrival was eating quite a bit for me by evening and was walking normal, but the other was still walking funny. I had hoped by being with mama chicken she would strengthen, like babies with skin to skin contact, but we lost her. Sad, because it is just about impossible to replace her right now, as I have to order at least 6 chickens from MPC and I can't get 6 more. at least I had ordered 2 and the other looks good. I have wanted a polish for SO long!

Bummer, I'm sorry.

I expected to lose at least one of mine, but they all made it.....

- That is some hen you have there - L@@k at those muffs! I'm glad she's accepted them, sounds like she'll be a good mamma....

She is such a sweet girl. I HAD 3 Favorelle hens, but dogs have gotten the other two over the years. They are just the sweetest things. The only of my hens that we can pet and pick up. Even broody she wasn't mean to me. Had I known a dog would get her friend this spring I would have put favorelles in my order this year, but when it happened they were already out of them on the hatch date I had.

Have they climbed up on her back yet? - I kept a camera handy, you never know when they'll do something you wanna share

I guess I'm lucky, we don't have any dogs around - or none that I know of, I should say.....That's devastating. I do have a weasel running around, though. I just bought traps for it....

I hope one of my SFs goes broody.....
