what an adorable group you have. I have my first wyandotte ,golden laced and she is just so sweet. She was the only chick I left agway with that one day. (I don't know if you have Agways everywhere) it's like a tractor supply but more rustic and been around forever. when I go in there they have all the little chicks and ducks just peeping about in their bins, and I spend so much time picking them up and loving them lol.
But I see they had the Golden laced and I was like I want her.. she came right up to me and enjoyed being held, so me and my little Mazie (her name) headed home

That's such a cute a story! Ive never heard of Agways but it sounds really neat!

18 dozen, how fun!!! I love the sound of that. Did you start out with just a few chickens and now have many or did you start gangbusters? I have 13 (not all laying), way past the allowed, don't tell (I'm hoping my neighbors cant count) but I want 30. I love caring, gathering, counting, selling, giving and trading. Total therapy. Too funny to find other chicken addicts. Love BYC and it's peeps, just a bunch of enablers.
PS. I like your set up and would love to see more.

The story of our first chicks:
About 4 years ago, my mom and I really wanted to get canaries. So we researched and found a canary breeder. We drove up to Houston to the breeder. The breeders brother came out to help us choose our pair. Somewhere in the conversation, he said, "Now, this is what I raise." And showed us so chicks and asked, "Do you want any?" We said no we didn't want any right now although we had been wanting to get some in the future buy we didn't know where to put them. After we picked out our pair of canaries and we're about ready to leave he gets a box and puts a black chick and white chick in a box. He places it in my little sisters arms and says, "This is for you." And those were are first. We never did find out what breed they were. They black one was a rooster that later in life had a broken toe and would have seizers and couldn't get up till we helped him. One day, while frolicking outside the pen, he had a seizer in a puddle and drownded. The white chick was a hen and would only lay shell-less eggs. She sadly got turned into our food. Morbidly, their names where Drumstick and Nugget. We added more and more chickens each year. Fortunately, we ave gained love for our chickens since then and I am proud to say they live a lovely life!
