I'm going to attempt to place day old chicks (that I'm getting from a friend) under a broody hen. I've got a small kennel set up in the coop for momma and babies. Will momma keep babies warm enough or do I need to do something to help keep them warm? I'm in Missouri. Right now it's in the mid 80's during the day and low 70's at night.

If it were below freezing Mama would provide enough heat. If you add heat you will be doing zero good and taking a chance of cooking them. Bad idea! Bad idea!

Welcome to the forum, glad you joined. And glad you asked before you tried it.

Thank you

Have a plan to get heat in a hurry, though, in case she doesn't accept them. Watch closely at first.

Good luck!

So, the chicks are in the inside brooder, hen wouldn't take to them. I have 3 bantam cochins and 2 black australorps and they are doing well.
