I don’t know what happened. I put some eggs in the new incubator I bought. I put in about 3 eggs I had just collected and put in some I had sitting on the counter. The ones from the counter had been there about a week and a half. This is as just an experiment. I put them in Sunday before last at 2 pm. After 7 days, I candled them. I couldn’t see anything. I did get rid of 2 that looked watery on the inside. I’m thinking ok I still have about 2 more weeks to go. I figured on te 19th day, I’ll take them off the rollers and mist them as I read or heard or something-I have been reading and researching. I don’t want t to kill any potential babies. So I go outside to check on my little hens and I come back in the house. I’m listening to the sound of the little hens and they sound so content. I walk in the house and hear loud chirping and I’m thinking wow how can that be! I’m just listening to them and now this sound of distress? Where is it coming from. I follow the sound to my kitchen table. What???? The sound is coming from the incubator!!! I freak out- total surprise. I look inside the box through one side. Lo and behold! There it was strattling one of the rollers and surrounded by the other eggs. I open the box and looked at the clock on the wall-it was 2 pm. The little critter was loud. It popped out of the shell in the short time I went outside. I’m thinking it has only been 13 days, how can this be? I guess the days on the countertop counted. Next day, at 8 pm, I hear another loud chirp. I go straight to be box not knowing what is going on since the eggs have not been in there the amount of time allotted for hatching. Sure enough another just popping out of the shell- a wellsommer-looks like. The first I think is a Rhode Island Red. I took the eggs off the rollers and misted them. I left them a few days. Nothing happened. I have put the eggs back on the rollers. I will follow the schedule. This Thursday will be 19 days. I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of a few more. The baby chicks are doing great. They keep each other company. I’m learning.
