New Chicks

I was wondering what you are supposed to use to disenfect the old chicken coup/roosts- I did not get any answers at the local Southern States Co-op. We still have 5 older hens and are keeping the 28 new chicks separate in another bldg. until they are big enough to integrate. What can we spray down everything with that is safe. Thanks, Becky

Whenever i clean mine out i use a water/bleach mix it works really well but you can use what you want just let it air dry after you rinse it clean! good luck

So, what ratio of bleach to water do you use.

I use water bleach also. I mix mine 1 cup bleach per gallon. Be sure to wear old cloths because I ruined my pants and shirt with the spashing bleach...."Men!" Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles too. Clean out as much of the debris as you can, then scrub it down good. Then if you can, take a garden hose and rinse it out, then air dry, and you should be good to go.

In research institutions, most cleaning protocols call for 10% bleach solution, so that should do it! Totally drinch whatever it is you're bleaching. I'll double check that % number and correct if I am wrong. Good luck! My coop was built with PVC piping for easy cleaning-only the roosts are wooden (dowl rods!) so I'll be putting the 10% bleach solution to use soon, also! I think I'll end up using my garden hose attachment so it can mix bleach as it sprays and be easier.
