I am getting two Cochin pulleys in a few days and I have a few questions.
1.) do I give food and water right away
2.) do Cochins have special healt needs?
3.) what is the best way to prepare them for fair?

1.) do I give food and water right away

I did to my chickens when I first got them.

2.) do Cochins have special healt needs?

What age are they? The only thing I would be concerned about was poop getting stuck in their down. (Which happened to my Buff Brahma, who is also very fluffy)

3.) what is the best way to prepare them for fair?

Since they have feathers on their feet, a place with bedding would be best. Sand would also work too. Make sure they are healthy (red combs, no parasites) and give them a bath 4 days before the show.

Welcome to BYC!

So glad you could join our community!

Yes, feed and water them right away. These are pullets? They will be a bit nervous in their new digs for a while, so move slowly around them, try not to handle them for a couple weeks, and go sit on their level with them on the ground once a day. Get them used to you. You can bring some treats like Mealworms or some bread and sprinkle it around you so they have to come close. Hold some treats in your hands too. Do this everyday for a couple weeks and they will calm down and start to trust you.

Yes, Cochins have furry feet. It is best to try and keep them out of the mud. Sand is a great medium to use in coops and runs for Cochins as this will help to keep the feet cleaner. Here is a nice thread on sand if you are considering using it. I am a huge fan of sand and use it everywhere...coops, runs and even nest boxes!......

Good luck with your new birds! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Welcome to our flock!

Well Tuesday I will get them. They'll be a day-two days old. Lol
There are babies? Ok then you will need to set up a brooder for them with heat. Take a look at this article in our learning center on raising and brooding your new babies. This will tell you all you need to know on taking care of them....
