I decided to let one of my hens set on the eggs she had. She also has been collecting other eggs after she started setting in the first ones. So I have candled the one left under her ( three have successfully hatched and three more didn't quite make it out) but the problem I am having now is that when one is starting to hatch out she (and/or the chicks) are starting to peck off the shell around the new one. I think that is why I lost the last one. This one hatching now seems more strong willed than the last but I want it to survive is there anything I can do to keep the others from getting at the shell and how can I make sure the rest will hatch out safely?

Welcome! Do you have a incubator? If you don't then I'd take the other chicks away that have hatched already and put them in a brooder with a heat lamp if you have one.
You could also try keeping it dark around the nest so the other chicks or mom can't see the hatching egg very well.
