Well......I've been thinking about chickens for a while. Today I was at Rural King, there were chicks, a lady was telling me how wonderful and exciting it is, and all of a sudden I had 6 chicks in my cart and all the stuff that goes with them. They are currently in a rubbermaid tote occupying a corner of my dining room table.
I know that I have 2 Rhode Island Reds and 4 other ones. After finding this forum and reading your posts, I rather feel like an idiot that I don't know what the other ones are since you all seem to know exactly what you have. The Reds are 3 days old; the others are about twice the size so Im guessing maybe a couple weeks? The fuzzy is starting to go away and they have little feathers forming. At any rate, they are adorable.
I have put apple cider vinegar in their water and checked all their butts - no poop there so I guess we're ok for today.
I live in western pennsylvania and am raising them for eggs. I would welcome any advice/information that any of you can give me. I am currently reading in the raising chicks section and will continue on. We will be starting our chicken coop tomorrow and I think I will set up a little area in my yard so that they can roam around. Temp is in the mid 80's here so they should be ok I hope
Thank you for having me and I will try to keep the dumb questions to a minimum but it will take me a minute to get used to the terminology.
