We are in the process of upgrading our chicken game. Last year we started with four birds, which ended up being all roos!! Haha, but we love our big boys so much that we've decided to get then enough ladies to stay occupied!

How could you not love these guys?

Moving the "old" coop...feels silly calling it old, we just built it last year!

End of day one ^

About halfway through day two, I had to leave early

Finishing day three

Now if only we could convince winter to go away do wet could work on days 4 and beyond!

Thanks Terry!

The boys were "helping" yesterday.

Got some walls framed for doorways, and half of the roof cross-beams up, and now we've got three days of winter storm advisories to slow us down!

Finally some more progress! The weather got nice, and the project got put on the back burner. Now that everything is planted and there's a group in the brooder, it's time to step it up...

That is a pretty big hen house for a backyard flock, but then your "backyard" appears to be bigger than most. So going from four roosters to how many hens?

I take it the concrete slab you are building on was already there?

Judging from the other farm buildings in the background, once upon a time a nice chicken house probably existed there too. Is it gone?

Nice JD tractor. A 2010 or some such?

Haha, yes we have a pretty big yard. The concrete slab was a chicken house in a former life. The farm is my husband's family estate, they used to do cows and chickens, switched to cash crops in the early 90s. I'm the crazy one wanting to bring chickens back

. Next year I'm gonna try for sheep.
We ordered 59 hens from a couple different hatcheries. 4 more lavender orps, 5 cuckoo Marans, 10 barnvelder, and 40 buff orps (hoping all pullets) but last time I was at tsc I also picked up 14 Bantam and 3 barred rock, they were the last chicks and no one wanted them...I couldn't not take them.
As for the tractor, I know less about it than you do, my only tractor skill besides driving is riding on the fender.
