A week ago I said id post pics but my computer decided it didnt want to read SD cards. So theese are cell phone pics.

The run area is 8x8 chicken wire with another 4ft under the coop. The coop itself is 4x8.

Things we still need to do..... roosts , clean out door , the pop door (will be bottom hinged with piano hinge) , corrigated fiberglass for the runs roof , frame up the run entrance door and then apron the whole thing in hardware cloth Oh and Laura also considers the battle ship grey to be its "primer" and insists it have trim put on it and be painted a nice color. I think she wants green and white or white and green or something like that.

I also built the ramp , door for run and 3 place nest box for the feathered pigs. (Spend most of the day with a cut off wheel cutting all the nails and screws inside the coop so the feathered pigs dont poke their little eyes out.

Yesterday. I had a pile of regular work to do plus a few " honey do chores" so I didnt get as much done as I wanted to.
We did the cleanout door , hung the door for the run and covered it with wire. covered the rear upper vents with hardware cloth. (they can be seen in ther photo of me looking thrilled about painting). We also did some interior decorating.

Today ill be building the roost , picking up the corrugated fiberglass roofing for the run and god only knows what else.

My honey hard at work painting the inside a nice white for our girls.

what does 'apron' mean - is it just adding a bottom section of hardware cloth? .. I am going to be building a run soon and wanted to know how every one is building the runs to keep out 'digging' preditors?

Nice beer holder by the way!

Yeah Shelly we are going to go around the bottom and out a few feet with wire to stop digging critters. My main concern is coop security as the gals will be locked up at night in the coop. We have ALOT of raccoons around here so Pretty much short of poured concrete and chainlink theyll we get in the run sooner or later. Thats one of the reasons im bottom hinging my pop door with piano hinge edge to edge. I figure this way they wount be able to stand up and grab a corner to rip the door off.

hehe I thought you guys would get a kick out of the beer holder

Thanks Maree. I really wanted to go with green but it was take grey off the shelf or stand in a line 30 people deep to get green mixed for us. We put up the sheeting sunday with rain comming monday and today so we had to get it protected. Laura informed me she WILL be painting it green and I WILL be adding trim and a nice window ( shes not hearing a sheet of plexiglass)

Ill try and keep the thread updated as we progress. The rain is holding everyting up right now.

I think what "apron" means is that you attach wire to the bottom of your coop, dig down and run it out 2 feet from the outside. That way if an animal tries to dig at the base of your coop/run, they cant...even if they take a step or two back. Also, you'll want to put some heavier wire over the chicken wire around the lower half of your run...chicken wire can be easily ripped by predators, even dogs.

Hope this answers your question. Great set-up by the way!
