So a few weeks back, we had a chook sit on 20 eggs. I thought if half of those eggs hatch we'd be in serious trouble. So I ordered a coop from the same old mate that built the love shack.

Yesterday the coop arrived in the pouring rain. Coop section was assembled but run had to be assembled in the pouring rain. All up in 18 hours we had 36.5mm. Just enough to break the dry summer and put a bit of water in our dam.

Next step is to install rain gutters on the back of both coops and runs to collect rain water, a collection tank, and then install a watering system with nipples. Hope the three oldies are not too old to learn how to use nipples.

I also want to build a fence around the whole encampment so the chooks can free range a bit more without getting into the vegetable garden (just behind me as I was taking the photo). Will keep this post updated as things develop.

Thanks for reading and have an amazing day,

It's beautiful!! :thumbsup

Watching! Please keep me posted! :pop

Looks nice and airy.

Is electric poultry netting an option for you? I'm very happy with mine.
G'day there Killer

I was wondering about that. Do you move yours around or is it permanent?

I have a paddock, just off to the left of the new coop, and a gate there. If I just put a fence around the two coops, kind of like a second, outside run, I can either let them into the full paddock or just the area around the coops, or even just their attached coop runs depending on weather.

Or I could move a netted section every day or two around the vegetable gardens?

As always I'm open to opinions.

Have an amazing day further,

They way I had mine set up I shifted it around a core area to give them access to fresh ground from time to time.

I'd love to have a set of rotating paddocks, but I'm not there yet.

Unfortunately, with the Avian flu risk here on the US east coast, my flock is locked up. :(
