Hi All, when my spouse and I bought our house, someone had converted a portion of the big shed/workshop into a dog house for their Great Dane. We just finished building it out for our chickens using what we had on hand cause we didn’t want to spend any extra money .. with the exception of the ground cover. The ground is concrete, so we covered it with sand .. the coop is dry .. but I’m wondering if I should do something on top of the sand for under the roost bars. Does anyone use more than one coop floor Cover? Pics of before and after, when all was said and done we built this out for about $150.. we used leftover paint which is why it’s incomplete but I doubt the chickens will care 😂

Sand should be fine throughout as long as you can keep it dry.

I do use 2 types of litter in the coop - wood chips for the bulk of it, hemp under the roost. That's because the wood chips are free but hard to remove poop from, so the hemp is there for easier sifting of poop.
