Haha, I looked a lot of coops, many of them were nice; some seemed overly complicated so I just deciding to design this one from scratch. Took a single 103 degree day and I sat inside the air conditioned office and designed it to the 1/16th of an inch. Every cut was written in the plan so all I had to do was start cutting and fastening. I had very little waste. However, lumber prices the way they are it's going to take a lot of eggs and chicken thighs to pay this coop off. Heck, I'll never have a chicken coop this fancy for myself, I don't think I'd ever be able to afford it.

Just curious was it over 5k? My husband regrets not just giving me 5k to do ours...we are on our second one in 3 months...n he hates doing this type stuff!

Are you asking about materials only? Because I don't think so, I haven't added it all up yet. Thankfully we had some metal and plywood on hand. My bosses had to pay for labor so they have to figure that in the cost. If you are building one yourself you could build it for less than 5K if you had to buy every last material. It should last quite some time. I'd be happy if it lasts 25 years, impressed if after 35 years it was worth keeping, and disappointed if only 15 years. Of course it would need maintenance over the years.

Man. We soooo should have just done that! We've put (mainly due to my lack of research ahead of time) over $1500 into these 2 coops/runs and still nothing even remotely sound as this one you have done. Awesome job!

Done. Not perfect but the bosses wanted it done by August 1 and I did my best to make that happen.
