Hello everyone,
Well we have finally built the ladies their coop. They have been sleeping out side in the elements for who knows how long. We may have gone a little over board but that is what animal lovers do. The coop is 6' wide x 4' deep and about 4' high (from the floor not ground)

At first we were concerned because pecker did not want to go in. Last night i place her on the roost and she stayed on it all night. but when I checked on her this mroning she was still on the roost. I am not sure she new how to get down. I took her down and she was happy. Good news when we got home, we found an egg in the nest box so at least she is going in the coop during the day!! Qustion about the roost, by looking at the pics is it too high? Should i lower it, or maybe build some kind of ramp? I plan on adding a poop shelf this weekend. Right now the roost is about 35" of the floor. Just a little bit higher than what they were used outside. I put her on the roost again tonight so we will see where she is in the morning.

Our other lady is broody again, so insted of getting to check out the new condo, she is stuck in a cage. How many ladies yall think we can have in here? The have access to the run (40' x 20') 24/7 and free range the yard every night....

Here are the pics, hope you all like....

Nice looking coop. I would probally lower the roost to the level of the board above the nest box. Looks like it is to close to the roof. Just my opinion though.

Will be lowering it tonight to just above the box. Want to leave enough room for a poop shelf.

How many ladies you think will be comfortable?

The coop looks great. I agree about lowering the roosting pole a bit. Adding the poop shelf will give them a lower place to jump, too. I think your coop should easily handle 6 large chickens (4 sq. ft each). Perhaps even a couple more since they have so much room outside for them during the day.

Will the two nest boxes be enough for 6 ladies? it is one giant box with two smaller boxes in it...

How much lower do you all have the poop shelf?

Well i lowered it and placed her on the roost earlier. Good news is she now will jump down. this evening i found her roosting under the cage i have set up for her Broody sister. Not sure if she is still al ittle confused or misses her sister. I put her on the roost and she is sound asleep. Morning will tell, hope she jumps down on her own. I will not be bulding the poop shelf till this weekend.
