New Coop for my Silkies, Etc.

Was going to make one out of pallets. Between the high heat, time and no help, I decided to buy a coop from a local area from www.countrysidebarns.com in Eureka, IL. Love the coop! Will hold 20 to 25 chickens and has a vented metal roof, two windows, human door, and of course, a chicken door. Have to run some electric yet so I can have a fan and heating lamps in the winter. I also, made a fountain out of terra cotta pots next to the coop so they have water if their other water was to run out.

It really is a very well built looking coop

I would take what they told you about chicken capacity with several grains of salt though, as most coop manufacturers grossly exaggerate that number. If you get snow in your area (I'd think IL gets decent winters), try to allow at least 4 sq. ft per bird over winter time. I can't tell the size (5 x 8 maybe?), but do the math...

Thank you and yes, the capacity can vary with size of chickens. I have nine and there is tons of room for them. seven of them are silkies. of course, i am not planning on having 20 or 25 chickens so theis will be sufficient for them. I am getting electric to be able to supply heat in the winter. Yes, IL can be very cold. Not sure about this year with all the heat wave going on, lol. it is a 5 x 8 foot coop but with the egg boxes it comes to 7 x 8. the height is over 6 ft. tall which makes it nice, also.

I don't receive messages in my email for some reason. I went and checked my account to see if i had it set up and it is set up for daily messages. hmmm
