AHHHHHHH, you are making me nervous, I thought it looked like Fort Knox!!!! Oooh No!!! Do I need to do more???
Yeppers, the hardware cloth is buried approx. 8-10 inches on front, then I got nervous so I put it down deeper and made it "L" shaped!!! I hope that is enough to keep all buggers out, if not...electric will be added, the first sight of any digging, will probably scare me enough to go ahead with the electric fencing!!! I am locked and loaded, ready to protect!!! Won't be any questions asked around here...if it gets after my peeps....it WILL be a goner!!!!

Yes, you need protection around the entire perimeter. I would bury or lay on the surface one inch chicken wire out 24 inches from the coop and run. Critters will try to dig right next to the cage/run, once they hit the wire they give up because of the pain to their paws. Electric is a good idea.

Do you think I need to add more hardware cloth around the perimeter??? It already goes all the way around (buried), it goes 8 to 10 inches straight down in front, and is deeper on sides and back of coop and is "L" shaped...goes straight down and then I bent it to go out like 8 more inches!! You feel that what I have done is not enough???? That was ALOT of digging, I am not by any means complaining, I just thought that was plenty......

not to mention...the shovel is bigger than I am!!! But if everyone thinks I need more...well then........I think I need HELP to get this right, I thought I had done enough to protect them....Oh my!!!!!

Hi again,
Since you have wire buried wire 8 inches I would still lay one inch chicken wire, attached to the cage and run, on the surface all the way around as I mentioned above (24"), staked so critters can't crawl under it. You can cover it (no digging) with dirt, gravel or mulch of some sort, the idea is to stop critters right away, you don't want them going down 8-10 at all. As mentioned above, a critter will usually start digging close to the coop/run not 24" out. Also, buried wire will rust and rot very quickly.
