I am thinking of upgrading to a new walk in chicken coop. My chickens currently have their favorite spot in the current coop to lay eggs. I was wondering if they would be stressed out and not lay eggs when they go to the new coop?
The stress will not last long if any. If you treat your chickens with kindness, they don't get stressed. Stress usually occurs when chickens are shipped, and are caged and such activities. Predators also bring on stress even if they only visually torment the chickens..
BTW upgrading to a walkin is a great move,,,,, For you and chickens

Any change can stress them out, depends on the birds how much or for how long.
A new coop is a major change, you'll need to confine them to the new coop to 'home' them to it. Laying could stop for a few days... or a few weeks. Be calm and confident around them, that will help them IMO.
This past year I upgraded from a prefab coop to a walk in shed. I locked the hens in there for 48 hrs to home them to it. They stopped laying for a couple of days, and then were back on a normal schedule. They took to the new nest boxes and roosts without issue. The pop door was new to them so they were confused the first night but after that everything was back to normal.
