My amazing Hubby just built my new and old girls a new coop!! The design is under my deck, with ample space for my backyard chickens to reside. It is a pretty simple structure, cost about $450 to build, is big enough for 25-30 chickens, but I have 14 inside. I think we could have made it more cost effective, we were going to use pallets and different wood, but opted for pressure treated and a little more material than we needed initially. Also, my pullets were getting too big to live in the brooder any longer, so it had to be done a little faster than we had time for. There are a few mod's still needed to be made but this is the general idea. Pressure treated 2x4's, plywood and chicken wire and a corrugated metal roof..simple.
I have one Favorelle that lives currently in the house because of a genetic condition which has stunted her growth severely and caused issues walking. She is not able to join the flock and probably will never. I just wanted to share some pictures of the build. When we come up with a solution to our little one I will post as well. I want to make a separate coop and run for her, so if there are ideas, I would appreciate anyones feedback! Thanks!
