My family has come a long way with chickens. My first experience with chickens was many, many years ago, when my dad brought one home. It was an Easter egger named Isabella. Unfortunately, that chicken died a while later. From then on, we never owned any more chickens until 1 year and 2 months ago. When we bought 2 hens. They were housed in a trash can....I KNOW that people would think that is crazy! And I cant believe that those chickens are alive to this very day! After a while, we rebuilt it and made a cinder block house. It used about 10 cinder blocks. They layed their eggs in a trash can, and that was that. After awhile we got 10 easter egger chicks in the mail. It was then that I realized the chicken we owned...5 years ago was an easter egger! I had not known anything about chickens, but I was learning. We then built a new coop, made also of cinder blocks. It had about 120 cinder blocks and took 4-5 days to build, for the roof, we used a tarp and wood. And I know...it was not the best and was surely not appealing to the eye, good thing we did not have many predators during that time. In that coop, we housed 12 chickens for 6+ months. During the time, we got 2 new chickens and lost one to cannibalism when the chick was 2 days old. That was until one of the 10 chicks turned out to be a male. And thats when we decided to move. We moved all the way to a different county and the land had a coop. We fully cleaned the coop and washed it out will water as well as adding more bedding. They then were moved...and they stayed in that coop for 6+ months by now. All 12 chickens are still living in there except one of our leghorns. We also have since gotten 8 more chickens, so now we have 20 chickens (6 are in the brooder). And we bought a new coop! I am soooooo excited. We are planning to convert an 8x12 shed into a chicken coop. After previously buying an already made chicken coop, it could not ship to where we live, so we got a shed. It should be coming soon, and I will be updating the progress right here, on my thread! Can't wait!

P.S. we are not at all handy and any tips would be appreciated. (It took us about a month just to convert a bought run into an 100% predator proof quail aviary, so we are really, REALLY bad at renovating things. I will be posting pictures soon hopefully!!! :)

It can't look worse than my Splits Temporary Accomodations, which involve a dog crate, some scrap metal roofing, a piece of old tarp, and bungee cords.

So here is the big reveal!!! This was the coop 101 with only a few cinder blocks...
Does not believe it is truly bad.....the birds lived so it did its job.
I am actually not too sure how they survived :) glad they did, but we left pretty large gaps...now that i know the gaps can’t be larger than 1 inch, I look back in full disbelief of how they made it...
