New coop

Got my idea from small coops section. There's a red and white one next to the Silkie Chalet. I just added a overhang, moved the door and window, changed the size and laid the base of 2x4's on their side instead of flat. I'm putting metal siding around it. I sure hope this is ok ( got a steal on it from a junk dealer).

everything I read about ventilation.... add more. I plan to have vents at the top on all 4 sides. I do plan to be able to close them off. but since one of the main purposes for the ventilation is that chickens have issues with air quality, - the vents are a must.

BTW - how tall is the coop/run front and rear.
I really like the details of the construction your using. I had planned to go 7 feet in front and 6 feet in the rear. that way - no banging your head while in the coop and just enough slope to allow snow to slide off.
not that we get that much snow here in the Northwest. but we get a little.

nwmd, it's 8 ft in the front and 7 ft in the rear. That way I didn't have to cut any of the standard 8 ft (96 inch) ones on the front.

Here's some more pics of the coop I'm making after day 3 1/2 between all the rain storms. I still gotta paint the wood frame, put latches on doors and windows, put my wire on and then finish the inside. But it's coming along considering it's the first real one I've built.

Nice job

now I'm ready to put wire around the run but it won't quit raining long enough for the wood to dry out so I can paint it. Thanks for the compliments, I work long hours on my job and this is the most relaxing thing I've done in a long time.

Coop would have been nicer but had to cut back on expenses and use some used sheet metal for now cause wood siding is so expensive and I have so much stuff to buy since I'm just getting started. I screwed the siding on so I can remove it later and use nice painted wood with trim. My wife would stroke if she knew what I've spent on materials ( lol ).

We used sheet metal and screws for the new coop, for the same reason, saved lots of money, some already available, etc. But I know I will have to deal with the condensation problem on the inside of the roof before winter. I have another metal coop that literally dripped water all over everything during winter when it was below freezing during the night and humid, but well above freezing during the day, not unusual around here.

I suspect the metal siding will work out much better than a metal roof (not sure what you are using for the roof.) Most of the dripping I had was from above. I am hoping that insulating the roof/ceiling will take care of it for me.

If I could figure out how to get back to p. 1 of the post and not lose this, I might sound a little smarter....
