New Coop

I am starting the construction on my new coop this weekend. Hopefully the rain will hold off until the afternoon each day. The last two months I have been on Recycle and picked up about 45 pallets, 6 full size window, a door and some scrap wood. I am thinking of building a 12x12 building with the coop being 8x8 and the remaining space for storage. I will be adding pics as I move along. Just wanted to thank everyone on BYC, I have found my plans, local ordinances, thoughts about coop size and encouragement to start.

My daughter is going to be so happy.

That sounds like a nice project! Make sure when you make the walls- if you are making them from pallets- that you leave no spaces for rodents to get into the walls. In other words they need to be off the ground on a platform and not resting on the ground vertically from what I have read.

Also only 1/2 inch hardware cloth will keep out rats and weasels, which kill chickens.

I love recycled coops! Most of mine was recycled from concrete forms and old concrete planters. I hope the weather holds out for you!
