New Dickey Incubator - 48 Bantam Eggs - All Done.

Quote:
Thanks MissJayne! I really do appreciate the help. Unfortunately for the first run the incubator is going to be far from full, I only have the 48 bantam eggs for this run. Still, I'll keep a close eye on it and adjust as needed.

Well, I'm off to bed now. I deal poker at a local casino and have the early shift tomorrow. I hope I can be home by 2'ish so that I can meet the UPS man at the door & get started setting up the incubator. Good night all

No worries, it arrived within minutes of my last post. I have the backup regulator set and am working on the front (primary) thermostat now. More to come...

Ok, so far so good! Below is a photo of the incubator. This was taken before I did those few things that a new owner must do like put in the egg trays, install the door latches & temp meter, and so on.

I have the rear thermostat set to maintain 102F, this is the backup thermostat that takes over temp control if the primary one fails. The primary is set to maintain 99.8, after speaking with Mr. Dickey today and learning that he keeps his at 100 even I decided to give mine just a little increase from the 99.5 that's recommended on the paperwork.

Humidity is being maintained really well at 53%, here's where I ran into a small issue. The plastic water tub that comes with the incubator had a leak on one bottom corner. So after cleaning the water out of the unit I enllisted the help of Mr. Tupperware to take over the water tub duties, and informed Mr. Dickey of the problem.

I'm going to let the bator run like this for a few more hours, it's been 1 1/2 hours already, and if everything looks good I'm going to set the eggs. Here's that photo...

Daily updates to this thread at 6pm Oklahoma time.

This year I have been using the DRY hatch method, and it has worked out pretty good. Here in AL my humidity stayed around 45 % with no water added. Then on the 18 th day I had very warm water, then humidity jumps to 80%.
And here is what I took out earlier today.
